When Will Life Go Back to Normal for the Royals?

The global pandemic hasn’t been great for anyone (except maybe Jeff Bezos). The Royal Family is no exception.

The Queen and Prince Philip have been staying at Windsor Castle with minimal staff to support them. Instead of the usual parade, flyover, and balcony waving that marks Trooping the Colour each year, Elizabeth celebrated her birthday with a sad, socially distant event at Windsor.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan were holed up at Tyler Perry’s mansion in Los Angeles–a place Harry allegedly hated. The Cambridges weathered the storm at Amner Hall in rural Norfolk, while Prince Charles has remained at Birkhall, his home on the grounds of Balmoral Castle in Scotland, since testing positive for the virus early in the pandemic.

At last, however, the Royals are starting to get back to business as usual.

William and Kate

Kate has done a couple of in-person events (although she could be better about wearing masks). She and William did a good job with Zoom calls and other remote work, but now they’re facing the challenge of doing public engagements again.

In addition, they’ll be sending their older two kids back to school in September. Although they were homeschooling George and Charlotte through the spring, the kids are headed back to the classroom. William and Kate are likely to return to London at the same time, where they have a posh apartment at Kensington Palace.

Harry and Meghan

As for the Sussexes, they were spotted handing out food and supplies at a Baby2Baby charity event last weekend in Los Angeles. Harry and Meghan also relocated to their new home in exclusive Montecito, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles, in mid June.

They were reportedly shopping around an idea to TV producers in LA recently–we’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more about that top secret project.

Elizabeth

The Queen decamped from Windsor at the beginning of August for Balmoral. She traditionally spends her summer vacation at the Scottish estate, which is rumored to be her favorite place in the world. Usually, she would head back to Buckingham Palace in late September. However, that’s not going to happen this year.

Instead, the Queen is most likely to head back to the same self-isolation situation at Windsor Castle. She simply can’t risk her health by returning to London. The UK tabloids are saying that she’s unlikely to return to Buckingham Palace until 2021.

At least she’s not completely alone up at Balmoral. Charles and Camilla are living in Birkhall, which is part of the estate. Her youngest son, Edward, as well as wife Sophie and their children, visited. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, were also there. The Cambridges have a visit planned before the Queen’s vacation ends.
