Royal news: Queen and Prince Philip to be at Windsor Castle as it reopens to public | Royal | News

Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 98, were reunited at Windsor Castle ahead of Easter and have remained there ever since. While the royal couple usually travel to Balmoral for the summer whether or not their Scottish break will happen this year is still hangs in the air.

As lockdown measures ease, some public attractions including the royal palaces will reopen their doors on July 23.

Social-distancing measures and one-way routes will allow royal fans to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, parts of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

The Royal Collection Trust galleries at Windsor Castle will reopen while the Queen and Philip are still likely to be in residence there.

Royal Collection Trust website states: “To ensure your safety, we have introduced advance booking, reduced the number of people we can welcome at any one time and a range of other measures.”

These measures include timed tickets to ensure a reduced capacity in the buildings, so booking your tickets online ahead of time is essential to guarantee entry.

Typically, visitors would be allowed to exit the property and come back later, but re-entry will be prohibited until further notice due to the timed slots.

While the Queen and Philip will be staying in a separate part of the castle to the galleries, members of the public may get a thrill out of knowing the royal couple are nearby.

The decision to reopen the royal palaces was made after the Royal Collection Trust made huge losses due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The trust is seeking voluntary redundancies among its 650 staff and has taken out a £22 million loan after predicting losses of £30 million over the next year.

Will the Queen and Prince Philip go to Balmoral this year?

According to royal insiders, a decision is yet to be made on whether the Queen and Philip will travel to Aberdeenshire this year.

However, one royal source has claimed the trip is on.

The Queen has been riding out on her Fell ponies during lockdown but is yet to return to face to face engagements.

The Queen is not expected to return to London until autumn due to the pandemic.

The Queen is said to be most at home at Balmoral as it is one of the only places she can truly escape the royal spotlight.

This year the Queen and Philip were expected to host Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their son Archie at Balmoral, following reports they had accepted an invitation to stay.

However, the pandemic is likely to make international travel a no-goer for the Sussexes for the foreseeable future.
