Prince Harry Speaks Out at Last on Royal Rift Between Brothers

We’ve heard rumors for a while that the relationship between Princes William and Harry–once seemingly so close–has been on the rocks.

Now Harry has finally spoken out about the perceived rift.

Read on to find out all the details.

Splitting Up

In March of this year, the Cambridges and the Sussexes split up their shared offices. William and Kate’s headquarters stayed at Kensington Palace, where they live in a swanky apartment, while Harry and Meghan moved their offices to Buckingham Palace.

They also moved out of their cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle.

At the time, a spokesperson from The Firm said, “This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for the Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family.”

In fact, it’s more common than not for Royal Family members to have separate offices rather than sharing the same staff.

But there’s also the fact that the two couples split apart their shared charity, as well.

Harry and Meghan no longer appear anywhere on the website for The Royal Foundation, a charity that the brothers founded together in 2009.

The Sussexes also have their own Instagram account now, allowing them to connect with their fans more naturally than the rather stuffy official Buckingham Palace page.

Why Did They Drift Apart?

Given that Harry and Meghan have apparently gone rogue with their decision to go after UK tabloids–notably, they aren’t using the Palace’s usual legal team–you could read the situation as Harry trying to establish an identity for himself beyond being “the spare.”

However, Royal gossips have also long suspected that there was more to it. Could it be that Kate and Meghan don’t get along? That’s certainly one possibility.

Another rumor suggests that William caused the rift by trying to derail his younger brother’s romance with an American divorcee–something that has gone badly for the British Royal Family in the past when King Edward VIII ran off with Wallis Simpson.

Yet another persistent rumor is that Harry chose to walk away following William’s alleged affair with Rose Hanbury.

An anonymous source from inside the Palace told People that it’s a shame the two couples couldn’t make it work. “There was power in that unity and great strength in the foursome, but I see why it is happening,” the source dished.

“There is always that tension: trying to do the PR thing and then realizing that they are just real people. They want their own place and their own things.”

What Harry Said

Harry spoke out about the perceived rift in the ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which you can catch this Wednesday on TV in America.

He confessed: “Inevitably stuff happens. But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly.”

That’s similar to what William said in March, when he confirmed that he and Harry “are at very different situations in their lives.”
